For the first time in two years I wasn't traveling for work over Halloween. This afforded me the opportunity to dress up like a schmuck and run amuck of the town for an evening. However there were a few problems between me and a successful Halloween night.
First problem: Limited wardrobe from which to create my costume. Solved by going to a costume shop. Second problem: Being tall in a country of average height people means costumes that would fit are limited. Solved by not caring what I dressed as. More to come on this later. Third problem: Finding a group of people to celebrate with an appropriate manner. Halloween isn't as big of a deal here so most of my friends weren't celebrating it. Thankfully this was solved by a few new friends who were hosting a party.
The house party was good, seasonal decorations, festive costumes, snacks, and plenty of drinks - including jelly shots! Americans would call these jello shots but they come in larger quantities and a spoon here. Same idea though, jello mixed with a spirit. After a couple hours of fun we took off for the clubs in town. We stopped at the first place we came to and ended up staying all night. Reasonably priced drinks plus good music kept our group there all night. That combined with the fact a few of them, most notably the hosts of the house party, had more than their share to drink already and would go no further. It was also good because the bar wasn't too busy which means we got served quick and had somewhere to sit when we wanted to. This isn't normally the case here.
The costume, a comic book Captain America with fake muscles was chosen over an Elvis jumpsuit with inflatable guitar. Literally these were only two costumes left at the store that would fit by the time I got there to rent (UK speak - hire) one. Captain America turned out to be great though! Most people knew who it was and when they found out I was actually "a real life American" they thought it was even better! Lots of high-fives and drinks for the protector and defender of freedom.
Saw lots of other good costumes. The best of which were Star Wars characters, including desert people. All in all it was a great night. Hope everyone else had a great Halloween! Off to go watch some more scary movies.
